Guilford Family: Robert Celia and Jes

Robert GuilfordHistory of farm / Business: My grandfather bought this farm in 1910, and my father and brothers farmed it before me. Celia and I were married in 1983, and we have farmed this farm organically since 1987, although we don't bother with certification anymore. We raise White Park Cows, which are classified as a rare breed: they do well on grass and they provide tasty healthy beef.

Farm / Food Philosophy: Healthy food, slow food, no steroids, our beef grows slowly, but the taste is worth it.

Favourite Manitoba Meal: Toasted garden tomato sandwiches on homemade bread. Fresh peas, fresh raspberries, our own beef, and Celia's homemade pizza.Robert Guilford

Why are you involved in HMS: The people involved in the HMS are all wanting to make a difference, and to do this together. I cannot think of a better way to spend my time, creating opportunities for young people and thinking outside the box.

Something fun to know about me: We lived in Indonesia for two years (1997 & 1998) volunteering for CUSO.

"How can you not feel good about trying to make a difference?"Celia Guilford
