My great grandfather homesteaded here in 1906, and my grandfather and father after him. I left the farm in 1993, pursuing a Masters Degree. But when I pictured home, this is what I pictured, and this is the lifestyle I wanted.
We wanted to be part of a group of like-minded people, and hope that it will build a market for our animals. That's why we joined the Harvest Moon Local food Initiative.
McDonald Farm is a family owned and operated farm near Cartwright in southwestern Manitoba.
We offer pastured, free-range pork from Berkshire pigs, an heirloom breed renowned for the exceptional taste and texture of their meat.
We also have gourmet grass-fed beef and lamb from animals that have been genetically selected for tenderness and flavor.
Our grass-fed philosophy creates meat that is low in calories and saturated fat, but rich in taste. Our animals are outside all their lives and are never in a pasture smaller than 40 acres.
